A trailing herbaceous vine that forms dense mats of foliage. The flowers are purplish pink. The buoyancy of the seeds allows them to be distributed by ocean currents. The bay bean thrives in sandy soils, prefers full sun and is drought tolerant.
Habitat: Coastal Uplands
Nutritional Requirements: Low, it grows in nutrient poor soils.
Drought Tolerance: High
Light Requirements: Full sun.
Flower color: Pink to rose-purple with white markings.
Flowering season: Peaks summer-fall.
Fruit: Brown pod, 4-6" long, flattened
