One of Florida’s most powerful herbs. Historical record indicates it was being used by the Choctaw Indians at the time of European contact.
Also known as Wax Myrtle, Myrica cerifera, candleberry, tallow shrub, arbol de cera, wax tree, cerero.
Culinary use: A substitute for bay leaves - pleasant balsamic aroma.
Medicinal: Traditionally used as a poultice on varicose veins. Drank as tea, it has been used to ward off colds and flus.
Also fights sore throats, dysentery, diarrhea, and worms. Works as an astringent and can reduce hemorrhoids and bleeding gums.
